Intake Pumping Stations P1 and P2 in Kristianstad

Xylem delivered the mechanical and piping installations for two new intake pumping stations in Kristianstad

Background

As part of Kristianstad Municipality’s investment in a new wastewater treatment plant, construction of two new intake pumping stations – P1 and P2 – began in 2022. The stations play a central role in the facility and are designed to pump wastewater from the trunk sewer network to the new treatment plant. The project was carried out between March 2022 and November 2024.

Project Scope

NCC was commissioned by Kristianstad Municipality to construct the intake pumping stations P1 and P2. On behalf of NCC, Xylem Water Solutions Sweden AB was responsible for the mechanical and piping installations in both stations.

Xylem’s scope included the preparation of manufacturing drawings, the delivery and installation of mechanical equipment, and incoming pipelines. The scope also covered testing, CE marking, and the delivery of final documentation to the client.

“The collaboration between NCC and Xylem worked smoothly from start to finish. Thanks to Xylem’s technical expertise and reliable deliveries, the pumping stations were completed according to plan and with very high quality.”
Anders Persson, Site Manager, NCC

The Challenge

The project imposed high requirements on operational reliability, capacity, and precision. The pumping stations were required to handle large volumes of wastewater under varying flow conditions, which demanded carefully dimensioned pumps and piping systems. At the same time, the installations had to be carried out in accordance with detailed contract documents and within a limited construction schedule — without compromising quality.

The Solution

In pumping station P1, a total of six pumps were installed, with a combined installed power of 270 kW and a specified flow rate of 516 l/s. In pumping station P2, eight pumps were installed, with a combined installed power of 360 kW and a specified flow rate of 830 l/s, distributed across two pressure mains.

Installed pumps:

  • 6 × Flygt 3202 MT 433 (P1)
  • 8 × Flygt 3202 MT 431 (P2)

This solution ensures stable and efficient wastewater transport, with high redundancy and minimal maintenance requirements. Through Xylem’s extensive experience in advanced pump installations, the project was executed efficiently and with a high level of technical precision.

The Result

Thanks to close collaboration between NCC and Xylem, the project was completed on schedule with documented performance. The new stations are now ready to be commissioned as an important part of Kristianstad’s modern wastewater treatment plant, designed to meet future requirements for capacity, environmental performance, and sustainable operation.
