Xylem’s passion for solving domestic water challenges begins with innovative pump concepts, design and engineering work at the company’s facility in Seneca Falls, New York. As part of the design process, engineers explore virtually every possible use of these highly technical devices.

In response to the community’s water crisis, WWT’s Executive Director Margaret Martens and Susan O’Grady, Xylem Director of Marketing, Residential and Agriculture, joined forces to develop an effective and lasting solution for the subdivision’s water needs.

Agriculture is by far the largest user of water – up to 70% of all fresh water consumption is for irrigation. Water has many other agricultural purposes such as washing stations, misters, or drinking water for livestock. In fact, horses consume up to 15 gallons of water per day.

ARA Pustertal AG operates the Innichen-Sexten wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the South Tyrol area of Italy. The plant, which has a capacity for 36,000 inhabitants, uses a conventional activated sludge process, with pre-denitrification and biological phosphorus removal.

After nearly 25 years, Grand Rapids finished retrofitting its combined sewer overflow system to a separate sanitary and stormwater system, completing its long-term control plan (LTCP) in 2015. But now, the City needed to get a better understanding of the infiltration and inflow into these newly separated sanitary sewers to ensure compliance with a mandate from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

In 2020, real water loss in the town’s network peaked at 27 percent. Leaks were undermining the town’s critical water conservation efforts. Recognizing the urgency of the issue, the town is deploying innovative solutions to combat water loss and ensure a sustainable water supply.

The sewer force main was not just leaking into the streets but into the Intercoastal Waterways along the coast of Florida. Smith-Blair engineers developed the solution, sent drawings to the customer, got the drawings approved and then had fabrications team come in specifically to work on the 48 inch bell pack all night.

The dismantling fitting will allow for easy removal and re-installation of the butterfly valve when valve maintenance is required. These fittings are part of the new Panamanian subway system pipeline relocation project that involves several thousand feet of pipeline.
