Situated on the banks of the Delaware River, Logan Township, New Jersey has a long history of caring for its watershed and natural environment. In the early 70s, the town designed what has been described as “the nation’s first ecologically planned industrial complex,” Pureland Industrial Complex.

Like many cities in the Florida Keys, Marathon, Florida had historically used septic systems to treat wastewater.  The community added secondary treatment several years ago, but the facility was unable to prevent nitrogen and phosphorous contamination of sensitive Gulf of Mexico coastal waters.

Melbourne Water is a water wholesaler in Victoria, Australia, and is ranked among the top performing Australian and international water utilities. Melbourne Water delivers over 430 billion litres (114 billion gallons) of safe drinking water and treats over 300 billion litres (79 billion gallons) of sewage from across Melbourne.

In 2004, a major west coast city began construction of two new interceptor sewers. The 12 foot diameter intercept lines relieve hydraulic overloading, but also created a number of turbulent areas where nuisance odors adversely affected the local residential community. These odors were primarily H2S at concentration levels of up to 150 ppm, as well as volatile organic contaminants (VOCs).

The city of Rosemount, Minnesota, was seeking treatment for phosphorus in the effluent discharge from the city's wastewater treatment plant. The customer's 0.75 MGD facility was permitted to discharge wastewater with a maximum average monthly total phosphorus level of 1.0 mg/l; however the effluent from the facility's newly installed disc filters was exceeding the NPDES permit limit.

This client operates a groundwater treatment facility at a Super Fund site where groundwater is pumped to a VOC stripper for the removal of TCE which is then re-injected into the aquifer. High iron levels in the groundwater caused fouling of pumps, pipes and well casings. This fouling threatened the reliability of the process in terms of flow.

​As part of an upgrade to the town’s wastewater treatment facility, Ranchester was considering an expansion of its existing lagoon infrastructure to include anaerobic pre-treatment. The project involved dividing an existing aerated lagoon into two separate cells.

The Griswold Water Treatment Plant is part of Aurora Water, the utility that manages water and wastewater in the city of Aurora, Colorado, USA. This direct filtration plant treats 80 million gallons of water per day (302,800 m³/d).

Bio-diversity in Florida’s St. John’s River estuaries is dependent on clean water. Growth in the area’s coastal communities is adding nitrogen and phosphorous nutrients to the river through wastewater discharges.

The South Dearborn Regional Sewer District in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, provides regional wastewater treatment services for three cities and an international distillery. The 6 mgd treatment plant is located in an area of high population growth and is surrounded by many retail operations and other commercial developments.

Located in the Shenango Valley watershed of western Pennsylvania, the City of Hermitage's aging infrastructure began to collide with its growing treatment needs. Hermitage also undergoes heavy summer thunderstorms when wastewater volume can double or triple in a couple of hours.

Constructed in the 1980s, the A.J. Brown plant is the largest of three wastewater plants in the city of Huntsville. This upgrade will expand capacity, improve energy efficiency and better handle peak wet weather flows in a small footprint. 

Xylem has announced that it has been selected by Payson City, Utah, to expand the City’s wastewater treatment plant. The plant expansion will address the needs of this growing community as well as meet current and future nutrient removal requirements.

Nutrient removal is an important process in meeting high quality effluent requirements. Excessive levels of nitrogen and phosphorous disrupt the natural environment and can affect the health of water systems. Furthermore, Prattville's wastewater system was projected to reach its capacity as the population of the surrounding area grew.

Key West is one of America’s most scenic locales. Situated in the Florida Keys southwest of Miami, it is visited by millions of people each year and is home to more than 30,000 year-round residents. While there’s plenty of ocean, potable water is a precious commodity which is piped 125 miles from the mainland.

Evoqua Water Technologies LLC was contacted by a South Florida Municipality to provide an odor control solution for a lift station within their collection system. In the past, the municipality had implemented biofiltration for control of atmospheric hydrogen sulfide. However, in recent years the biofilter was removed, leaving the lift station untreated and exposed to high sulfide concentrations.
