    League City contracted with CDM Smith to manage the expansion project and design and construct a 4.0 MGD (design) / 12 MGD (peak)treatment facility with an energy, labor, and operational efficient process that would meet exceptionally stringent discharge limits. The facility also needed to ensure Type I or Type II non-potable reuse was available for future irrigation and/or amenity use.
  • Bioxide® solution reduces odors, corrosion, and complaints

    Xylem was contacted by a Mid-Atlantic Water Authority to propose an odor control solution at one of their pump stations. The Authority was treating the odors with a sodium hypochlorite (bleach) solution to varying degrees of success. Downstream hydrogen sulfide levels in the atmosphere were the primary contributors to odor complaints, reports of corrosion, and worker safety issues.

    Evoqua Water Technologies LLC was contacted by a South Florida Municipality to provide an odor control solution for a lift station within their collection system. In the past, the municipality had implemented biofiltration for control of atmospheric hydrogen sulfide. However, in recent years the biofilter was removed, leaving the lift station untreated and exposed to high sulfide concentrations.

    The City of Los Angeles’ Hyperion Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of the largest in the United States. It serves approximately 9 million people by treating 460 mgd of wastewater. Built in 1949, the plant was designed to treat up to 450 mgd but was forced to reduce secondary treatment in the 1960’s to 120 mgd due to limited secondary capacity.

    The Grass Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant provides service for a population of approximately 12,000 people. Situated in California’s Gold Country, the area has some unique challenges that include mine drainage and heavy flows during the winter storm season in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills. On average, the City discharges 2.1 million gallons per day of treated wastewater effluent to Wolf Creek, a tributary of the Bear River.
