Intelligent pumping supports United Utilities' CSO programme
Xylem and United Utilities collaborated to transition 330 sites to just three standardized pump types, simplifying maintenance and cutting inventory by 85%. This smart network rollout also slashes reactive service calls by over 90% while lowering energy consumption by up to 40%. -
Ion exchange services remove groundwater contaminants
California Water Service Company had acquired another water company with approximately 100 connections, in Porterville, California, located in a remote agricultural area of the Central Valley. Their annual well testing had shown levels of nitrate at or near the Maximum Contamination Level (MCL) of 45 ppm and perchlorate was found in the groundwater at levels above the Public Health Goal (PHG) of 10 ppb. A treatment system was needed to remove both these contaminants to ensure quality potable water for the local community.

Kraft Foods achieves excellent nutrient removals
Due to an expansion in potato chip production, the snack food plant required additional wastewater treatment capacity. It needed to be able to meet strict discharge limits for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) regulations.

Low-pressure UV system ensures reliable and sustainable service water supply
The Böseler Goldschmaus GmbH & Co. KG site features its own modern wastewater treatment plant (38,500 ECW). To always ensure high water quality, a reliable solution was sought to keep the proportion of microorganisms, viruses, and multi-resistant germs safely below the prescribed limits without the use of chemicals.

Midas® OCM eliminates odors associated with sewer collection system
In 2004, a major west coast city began construction of two new interceptor sewers. The 12 foot diameter intercept lines relieve hydraulic overloading, but also created a number of turbulent areas where nuisance odors adversely affected the local residential community. These odors were primarily H2S at concentration levels of up to 150 ppm, as well as volatile organic contaminants (VOCs).

Milton Sewer Authority reduces wastewater strength by 90%
Settled in 1771 and incorporated into a borough in 1817, Milton is home to approximately 7,000 people in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA. The municipally-owned Milton Regional Sewer Authority (MRSA) serves many residential customers, but a large portion of the MRSA’s wastewater treatment plant's influent comes from the manufacturing facilities of ConAgra Foods, the food giant that produces Chef Boyardee, Healthy Choice, Andy Capp, LaChoy, and Gulden’s Mustard products.

Mission-critical support: Xylem powers sewage reliability aboard the USS Hornet
To help address the USS Hornet’s urgent wastewater system needs, a Xylem Goulds Water Technology 1GD51G4AA model grinder pump was recommended to replace the damaged unit that serves one of the ship’s critical onboard sewage tanks. This support provided the museum with a reliable, high-quality replacement that restored confidence in an essential system while easing the financial burden on the nonprofit organization. -
Mobile equipment helps mining operation meet metal limits
In order to expand operations and maintain a water balance in South Carolina’s wet climate, Nevada Goldfields’ Barite Hills gold mining operation required a treatment plant to handle its wastewater. At this mining site, the company extracts gold from soil using a high pH cyanide leaching solution. The process generated large volumes of cyanide and metal laden wastewater, which they had been storing on-site.

Mobile water treatment eliminates iron level issues
This client operates a groundwater treatment facility at a Super Fund site where groundwater is pumped to a VOC stripper for the removal of TCE which is then re-injected into the aquifer. High iron levels in the groundwater caused fouling of pumps, pipes and well casings. This fouling threatened the reliability of the process in terms of flow.

MPW selects EnviroMix BioMix for upgrade at second plant
Read how Mount Pleasant Waterworks used EnviroMix BioMix™ technology at the Rifle Range Road WWTP to support plant expansion, optimize denitrification, and reduce O&M costs. -
Municipal drinking water treatment
Municipalities are often faced with VOC contamination of their source wells. Chemicals like Vinyl Chloride and Trichloroethylene can leach into aquifers used as source water for municipal wells. When this occurs, in many cases the most cost-effective solution is to treat the water to remove the VOCs using air stripping, which has been established as a Best Available Control Technology BACT for this application.

Optimizing a plant's high purity water system with new CEDI modules
High-purity water is essential for producing steam that will not scale turbine blades with silica, minerals, and other contaminants. A large power generating company in North America used a competitor's continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) system for that purpose.

Orange County water district removes PFAS with 30 systems
In February 2020, the California State Water Resources Control Board announced revised drinking water Response Levels for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in drinking water. The new Response Levels (RLs) were set at 10 parts per trillion (ppt) for PFOA and 40 ppt for PFOS. The previous RL was 70 ppt for a combined total concentration for the two contaminants.
