Xylem Vue's Sewer Management application covers operational needs for network operators. It initially uses sensor data and threshold / anomaly alerts to identify emerging problems, progressing to embedded digital twins for rainfall integration and overflow forecasting. These predictive warnings give more time for proactive interventions to be taken, so that public health and the environment can be protected.

When faced with these types of critical situations, operators can also make evidence-led decisions by testing the impact of changing pump controls, weir heights or valve positions to reduce overflow volumes.

The application, which is part of the Xylem Vue platform, enables utilities to provide world-class service to the communities they serve while minimizing potential economic and environmental damage during extreme events.

  • Sensor data integration and visualization, agnostic to manufacturers, provides an immediate overview of current network performance.
  • User-defined alert setup processes ensure that as network knowledge and understanding increases, the system can be updated directly by operators.
  • Integrated hydraulic models, coupled with weather data, tide levels and river levels, can be leveraged to provide short-term forecasting of hydraulic conditions. This enables specific overflow sites which are forecast to spill to be identified ahead of time so pre-emptive action can be taken.
  • What-if capabilities give users the ability to test various control changes and understand their relative benefit/harm so that informed decisions can be made about which actions to take.
  • Historic performance can be tracked so users can look back at overflow statistics and past alerts to better understand current performance indicators and areas for improvement.
